Jonathan Grover: Solo Show

In art opening on February 16, 2010 at 8:20 am

Join us this Thursday for the last show ever at lowerdeck gallery Have a beer (or two or three) and view Presence, a solo show by San Francisco multimedia artist, Jonathan Grover.

This show will feature interactive based sound sculptures and video installation. You can touch the art! Refreshments served. BYOB encouraged. The show runs February 19th – March 6th. Hours will be posted soon..

Featured work will be:

Bridge (new work)
2010
Interactive Sound Sculpture; Wood, anodized aluminum, custom electronics.

Using wireless metal boxes as activation points–Bridge, invites participants to complete sound circuits and build up and break down resistive networks using skin to skin contact with others.

Table no.2 (new work)
2010
Sound Sculpture; table, transducers, motion sensors.

Participants discover a larger than life table.. Playfully slipping beneath the table their presence triggers a sound piece to be experienced from the secluded sanctuary beneath.

Shadow
2009
Interactive Video Installation; projection, live video, shadows.

Participants enter into an enclosed space with controlled lighting and their shadow is reflected onto a screen in front of them. Motion detection will trigger back projection of live video feedback of their shadow. This creates a disconnect between their motion / shadows existence and what is perceived—forcing a reexamination of the ones presence.

Ecotones @ lowerdeck

In art opening on January 1, 2010 at 5:30 am

lowerdeck Gallery features Ecotones – A Painted Windows Event

Where: 2295 3rd Street, San Francisco CA 94107 (Dogpatch)

When: January 22nd and 23rd (Friday and Saturday) two performances

Time: Festivities start at 8pm and go until they end

Painted Windows presents Ecotones, a curatorial collaboration between painters, filmmakers, writers and musicians revolving around the fleeting, ever-changing notion of home. An all-immersive environment sprung from a collage of individual takes, the exhibition will approach the idea of natural habitat through sculpture, painting, interactive installations, live music, language, diverse performances, and unique beverages. From Christy Chan’s films of insurgent wild life reclaiming Marin’s defunct military bases to Sonya Genel’s multi-layered paintings to a bathroom full of stuffed animals to a “shitty house,” Ecotones will present a latticework of fantastical wilderness and urban mythology.

Also:

-Experience an interactive ritual

-Sip some yerba mate cocktails

-Watch two films simultaneously

-Hear a concert by the Pitchfork, Rolling Stone lauded SF band, NewVillager who will debut songs from their upcoming self-titled album.

-Listen to the absurd language of an “absurd MC”

-Read a wall

-Draw on a wall
